Peripheral Neuropathy

What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?

“Peripheral Neuropathy” is a broad term that defines the symptoms resulting from damaged and/or diseased peripheral nerves (nerves in the feet/legs and hands/arms). Some of the most common causes are traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic diseases like diabetes, exposure to environmental toxins or chemotherapy, and lack of peripheral blood flow.

What Are The Symptoms?

Peripheral Neuropathy is confusing to many, because the symptoms can look very different from person to person. Most often beginning in the feet, common symptoms include:

  • Burning Pain
  • Electric-like Sensations
  • Tingling
  • General Pain
  • Loss of Sensation
  • Sensitivity to Temperature
  • Balance/Mobility Problems

You may also experience skin color changes with temperature due to lack of blood flow. The symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy progress very slowly and so many people do not realize that the symptoms are present until the condition is fairly advanced.

How is it Treated?

The most common treatments for Peripheral Neuropathy are:

  • OTC and Prescription Pain Killers
  • Anti-Seizure Medications
  • Topical Treatments
  • Antidepressants
  • Nerve Pain Medications

THE PROBLEM is that these medications only treat the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy! They DO NOT help the damaged peripheral nerves HEAL! At West Cary Wellness, we have developed a treatment protocol to address the root cause of peripheral neuropathy by encouraging your nerves to heal!

What Do WE Do?

Our office has developed a treatment protocol for peripheral neuropathy that actually helps your nerves heal. Through a series of in-office visits, our goal with treatment is to

  1. Increase oxygen-flow to the damaged tissue
  2. Increase blood flow
  3. Stimulate nervous system signaling
  4. Decrease internal inflammation

We do this through the following therapies:

  • Gentle, Low-Impact, Chiropractic Care
  • ReBuilder TENS/EMS Waveform Treatment
  • Anodyne Infrared Technology
  • In-Office and At-Home Prescribed Exercises
  • Anti-Inflammatory Supplementation and Nutritional Counseling

At your first visit, we will perform a complete sensory examination to determine the level of damage and also whether or not you are a candidate for our protocol. The minimum improvement we have seen in a qualified candidate was a 50% improvement over the course of treatment, and in many others, drastically more!

If you know or suspect you may have Peripheral Neuropathy, and are tired of the standard medical-model of care, please reach out today and let us schedule your consultation!
